John retired from full-time practice in 2004 but continues to act as a consultant to Grant Spencer.

He entered the profession in 1964 after a five-year spell in the Civil Service as an Executive Officer in the Lord Chancellor’s department. Later he gained experience in industry in the trade marks department of ICI.

He returned to private practice, eventually to become trade mark manager of another major professional practice before joining the firm. He became a Partner in 1982. In the past 40 years, John has gained wide experience in all aspects of UK and foreign work for major international clients.

He is a long-standing Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, qualified by examination, and was heavily involved with the Institute for many years. He is also a Registered Trade Mark Agent and a registered professional representative, authorised to practice before the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market.
